Quote of the Day

"Mom, it made me really sad when we caught that salmon (it was a trout)."
"Why is that?"
"Because we had to kill it, and that is not nice to animals."
"That is where our meat comes from, animals."
"Like what meat?"
"Chicken, bacon, hamburgers...."
"Can we have hamburgers for supper then?"

Quote of the Day

"Kai, shhhhh, mom wants to hear the weather!"

The Things That They Don't Tell You...

It is so much harder than you'd think it was.
Every time the phone rings you think someone is call to tell you he is gone.
You panic because you realized that you didn't ask enough questions about gardening and now you are completely unprepared to do it on your own.
If you let it, sadness will consume you.
No matter how much you do, you still feel guilty for not doing more.
You search your memory for the last thing he was able to say to you.
It's all going to be okay, even if it's not.

My Grandpa Cyril

My wonderful Grandpa had a stroke on Saturday November 27th. I don't know why but I feel like I need to put down all the things I know about him; maybe I'm afraid he'll never be that same person again and I will forget.
He loves to garden.
He doesn't like people that don't know what they are doing to touch his computer.
He is really good at playing bridge.
One time he was on a barge in a storm and the barge came loose and he had to be rescued by a helicopter.
He had his tonsils taken out.
He loves fiction.
He could never figure out the remote control.
He likes Grandma Grace's HOMEMADE cookies, not store bought.
He is restless and does not like to have nothing to do.
He doesn't like Italian food, and thinks Grace can cook a better meal than you could ever get in a restaurant.
He likes his coffee maker to keep the coffee HOT; why is that so difficult?
He will call people he doesn't like "no good son's a' whores!"
He goes red in the face when he is mad.
He does not like most doctors.
He likes to tease me Grandma; he always says “she’s just loafing around here like she always does.”
He "roams the roads" as much as Grandma does.
He wears glasses, even after eye surgery, I think he just couldn’t get use to not having them on.
He hates Canadian Tire and Tim Horton’s, I’m not sure why.
He loves Newfoundland.
He was the first person Kai reached out.
He is stubborn!
He is one of my favorite people in the whole world.

Quote of the Day from My Cousin

We're driving and someone pulls up beside us that we know, my mom (who is driving) rolls down the window and yells "hey you." My cousin in the back seat yells "YOU STUPID IDIOT! THE LIGHT IS RED!"

Singing "stich and bitch, stich and bitch, stich and bitch, stich and bitch, stich and bitch."

Kai might be the last baby we have and I had always regretted weaning Ian so early. In my naivety I thought it would be me to initiate that step towards independence (for both of us), and my thought was that it would be around two. Out of desperation, and exhaustion I gave Kai a bottle of rice milk, it worked like a charm, he fell asleep with in minutes, however I am paying the price; he won't nurse anymore. I guess it's just like everything else with kids, the goal is to teach them to be these self sufficient little people, but it's kind of like working yourself out of a job.

Photo of the Week

The photographer at Sears snapped this while we were getting ready to have our family photo taken; I think it is one of my all time favorite photos.

Kai took a step and learned to clap this week. He also got his 11 month Sears photos done, and the rest of the family got a few shots in too.

Photo of the Week

This morning Ian saw a bug in the window, he ran to his room yelling "Mom, Mom, where is my bug book, I have to find out what kind of bug that is!" He found the book, then looked through it until he found a bug that looked like the one he saw, and asked me what it was called. I was so amazed that he knew how to find the information he needed on his own!

Storm Day

First day of School

Both Ian and Nash were very excited about going to "big kid" school all summer, the night before the first day they were both a bit nervous, but very brave when we dropped them off. I don't know if it was just because of the unbelievable heat or the anxiety of starting a new school but neither seemed too impressed with the whole situation at 2:20 when we retrieved them. Here's to hoping it's better next week.

Our Trip to New Brunswick

We went to New Brunswick so that I could take the CAPPA Childbirth Educator Certification Course. Upon arrival at our camprgound (aka RV Park) my comments were "we're not staying here, find the next closest campground and let's go get our money back!" Well, the next closest campground was an hour away, so we decided to make the best of it, even though we were packed in like sardeens in a can, sleeping under a huge street light, and deside a very busy highway. We had no choise but to make the best of it, and the kids ended up having a great time, and I was more than inspired by my course!
